Hex is base 16. The farthest right place (8) is for 1's. The middle place is for 16's and the left place is for 256's (16<span>²). Because we run out of digits at 9, hex adds capital letters to represent the values (in decimal) of 10 to 15 (these must be represented by single digits). The B is a decimal value of 11.
