Netroots Nation Eve Drinking Liberally

Note that the photo, one our standard graphics, shows Thursday, but this special event is on Wednesday, June 15th.

The Netroots Nation 2011 conference is being held in Minneapolis, from June 16th through the 19th. There will be a lot of bloggers, new media of all kinds, progressives, and politicians in town for the event; it's the largest annual gathering of its kind.

We hope some of them will attend a special Netroots Nation Eve Drinking Liberally on the evening of June 15th.

Drinking Liberally Minneapolis/St. Paul is sponsoring a special Netroots Nation Eve program. This special show will be headlined by national radio talk show host THOM HARTMANN, Daily Show co-creator and comedian LIZZ WINSTEAD, legendary Twin City newspaperman NICK COLEMAN and Drinking Liberally founder JUSTIN KREBS. With a welcome by Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak and featuring music from singer/guitarist Papa John Kolstad and jazz/blues violinist Gary Schulte.

We start gathering around at 6 p.m.; the show starts at 7 p.m., but you'll want to stick around afterwards for the music of Dan Newton and the Daddy Squeeze Band who will play until late.

The 331 Club offers a full bar service, including sixteen different beers on tap (and some local ones, too), sandwiches and pizza. There are several other good, local restaurants located on either side of the intersection including The Modern Cafe, The N.E. Social Club, Erte and Anchor Fish and Chips.

The music for the evening is provided by our hosts, Jon and Jarret Oulman, the owners of the 331 Club.

Bus information: From downtown (where the Convention Center is), catch the Route 11 bus northbound on the Nicollet Mall. After a ride of just a few miles, you'll get off the bus (which will be traveling on 2nd Street N.E.) on 13th Avenue N.E. The 331 Club, shown above, is just two blocks east of where you'll get off the bus, on the corner of 13th and University Avenues N.E. (If cardinal directions aren't your strong suit, just ask the driver to point the way to University Avenue.) The street address is 331 - 13th Avenue N.E., Minneapolis. Estimated time of the trip is 30 minutes, maximum.

FURTHER UPDATE: There will be a DLer at the Main Entrance to the Convention Center (near Dunn Bros. Coffee)  at 5:45 on Wednesday evening to make the bus ride to the 331 Club. Join him if you're uncertain about navigating the bus system.

Update: If you're interested in a good and concise history of the Netroots Nation Conference, you should read Jessica Lussenhop's story in the current issue of City Pages.
