Yesterday, Katie wrote a column blaming feminism, in part, for what she sees as a spike in male violence. Spot wrote about it here. But apparently, feminism also causes rape in the military!
But more overt sexual aggression [in the military] may be the product of something few will acknowledge, at least on the record: resentment.
Off the record, in dozens of interviews over a period of years, male soldiers and officers have confided that many men resent women because they've been forced to pretend that women are equals, and men know they're not.
This quotation comes from a Kathleen Parker column that has apparently been taken down, at least the link in the Feministing post linked above didn't work.
The comments over at Feministing are worth a read, especially one that says this:
Goddammit, men are NOT animals! And every time some idiot like this gives them the excuse to behave like they are, one more complete waste of space out there is going to take it and expect that to take the burden of his own actions off his shoulders.
Spot thinks the commenter has it about right. From Spot's post:
Spot doesn't think the channeling of male aggression is civilization's central challenge. That puts taming males on a par with domesticating dogs or cattle.
You know, boys and girls, after the American Civil War, there were a lot of men who resented having to treat blacks as equals, or something approaching equals. They acted out, too. They even formed a support group. It was called the Ku Klux Klan.
