Barbour, Santorum & Perry

That’s the double-play team on the Republican party’s ball club in the instructional league. They’re the only ones that Governor Gutshot bested, however, in a recent poll in Iowa:

Pawlenty scored 1 percent in a poll of Republican presidential hopefuls released Monday by the Iowa Republican, putting him in a distant tie for sixth out of 10 candidates in the poll.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who won the 2008 Iowa caucuses, led at 22 percent, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 18 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 percent and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at 11 percent. [Sarah Palin polls eleven times as well, proving once again why John McCain picked her as a running mate over Pawlenty.]

The one bit of good news for Pawlenty is that three potential candidates included — former Sen. Rick Santorum, Mississippi Gov. Hayley Barbour and Texas Gov. Rick Perry — failed to reach the 1 percent threshold.

Pawlenty has been the governor of the state closest to Iowa of any of the hopefuls — for eight years. Nobody south of, say, State Highway 9, seems to have heard of him.

This from a blog called The State:

Well, he may have traveled to the state, but his poll numbers are awful.
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty is down in the polls in Iowa. A poll released on Monday by the Iowa Republican puts Mr. Pawlenty in a tie for sixth.
Sixth place translates to 1 percent support.
How possible 2012 presidential candidates polled:
Mike Huckabee, 22 percent, Mitt Romney, 18 percent Newt Gingrich, 14 percent Sarah Palin, 11 percent. Ron Paul, 5 percent, Pawlenty and Thune, 1 percent each Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum did not surpass the 1 percent threshold. Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and Texas Gov. Rick Perry did not register any support in the poll.

The Republican governor has made a concerted effort to build his support in Iowa, an early primary state in the race for president.

Called to Spot's attention by a tweet from @NickColeman.

And note the guy Pawlenty is tied with in the basement: Thune, also from next door to Iowa.

"Tied with in the basement." Sounds like the plot of In Cold Blood.
