Listening to Petraeus

Perhaps this analogy makes more sense to me because I'm an atheist, but I can't help noticing that the entire "debate" taking place in Washington is akin to arguing about the merits of transubstantiation in the face of a non-existent god.

None of what is being said by Petraeus or the blowhards who are questioning him has anything to do with the fact that the reasons for us being where we are today in Iraq do not exist. We are attempting to reason and fight our way through a creation built on a premise that is not, will not, and never was there.

In secular terms, what is the strategic context here? What in the hell do those charts have to do with the reality of the war's origin and purpose; with the fact that the reasons for this entire damn escapade are on par with the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny?

UPDATE: Here's a different analogy.
